Corrosion of molten salt on carbon steel

    Molten salt is a salt formed from the melting of melt, normal molten salt is the mixture that ir is consist of sodium nitrate, sodium nitrite and potassium nitrate mixture. Melting point is in 142 degrees Celsius, the gasification’s temperature is at about 500 0C, molten salt begans to slow decomposition in about 450 0C, the use of temperature is generally at the temperature of 250 0C~420 0 C.

    Metal materials occurs metal corrosion in molten salt, it is divided into two categories: one is that the metal is oxidized into metal ions and the other is dissolved in the molten salt metal state. The following is that two types of carbon steel corrosion are analyzed one by one.
Metal is oxidized to metal ion and it is also to replace the nitrate of the metal ion. As we all know, the reducibility of the Na, K is far larger than that of Fe reduction in the sodium ion, potassium ion. Therefore, the Fe of carbon steel is not oxidized to metal ions.
    Metal state is dissolved in molten salt, we know that sodium nitrate, sodium nitrite and potassium nitrate all belong to neutral salt. And the solubility of carbon steel in molten salt is very low.
    In summary, the carbon steel’s corrosion that the molten salt effects is very small.
