When no more solar radiation was available, the energy stored in the hot tank was used to produce electricity. For this purpose, salts flow from the hot tank through the heat exchanger to the cold tank, heating up a HTF. This HTF carried the thermal energy until the generator for steam production, which would transform the thermal energy to electricity.
