Structure and Bearing Selection of the Axial Flow Molten Sal
Molten salt pump is the vertical structure. The inlet of the molten salt is in the top of the impeller and the exit is in the below of the impeller. This design makes that the reaction is in the opposite with the direction of impeller weight. The reaction refers to that the molten salt makes the impeller. If so, it can slow down the bearing pressure of thrust bearing.
The motor shaft and pump shaft are connected by a coupling. Due to structural limitations, the pump shaft is very long. So it needs the upper and lower bearings to support and limit the pump shaft. The upper bearing is located outside the molten salt pipe, using rolling bearings. Bearing cooling chamber needs water (or air) to cooling, cooling water should be added before adding molten salt. At the same time rolling bearings uses high temperature lubricating oil lubrication, and regularly added.
Because the lower bearing is in the molten salt transportation pipeline internal and bearing operating temperature is effect by the medium temperature, so the temperature is generally about 300 degrees Celsius. If we use scrolling bearing, because of the operating temperature and environmental requirements, we can’t achieve bearing lubrication and cooling restrictions. So we select to use the sliding bearings. The lubrication of the sliding bearing uses itself lubrication of molten salt that it is transported. The longitudinal groove that it has a certain width and depth is in bearing inner diameter surface. It uses the pressure difference of outlet and inlet to lead the molten salt into molten salt gap. And it makes the molten salt by lubrication return to the inlet low-pressure side to achieve the purpose of lubrication. Lubricated bearings that they are in this manner are also known as self-lubricating bearings. As the molten salt will be condensed at room temperature, so we should add the high temperature to make the low temperature melting molten salt of the sliding bearings before we start the molten salt pump.
